A new internet connection at home has meant a few nights of dodgy connections, which is why the goals from Wednesday night’s match in Lima between Universitario and Lanús – won 2-0 by the Peruvian side – are only going up on HEGS now. They’re accompanied by some from an astonishing match which has just ended on Thursday night, also in Lima. Reigning Copa Libertadores champions Estudiantes travelled to Alianza Lima and – in spite of José Sosa opening the scoring after about five seconds – were thrashed 4-1. It was Alejandro Sabella’s first Libertadores defeat as Estudiantes boss, and it’s the club’s heaviest defeat ever outside Argentina. You can watch the whole sorry tale right here.

You can follow the Clausura and the Argentine sides in the 2010 Copa Libertadores via HEGS on Twitter (including updates during and between matches and similar stories that might not go up on the site until later). I’m slowly gaining followers, but if you’ve not signed up yet you can do so here.
As Football Manager would say, ‘Aguirre was sensational today! Estudiantes couldn’t handle him!’
It’s always a bad sign when an average player with little or no history is made to look like Pele.
As a Peruvian soccer fan, excellent viewing!
