Vélez Sársfield virtually assured their qualification for the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores on Thursday night, falling a goal down to Colo Colo of Chile before rallying to win 2-1 in front of their own fans with goals from Rodrigo López and Santiago Silva. The visitors’ scorer was Ezequiel Miralles, still in the team in spite of last weekend’s bust-up with a team mate. You can see the goals right here.
Copa Libertadores 2010, 25th March, Group 7: Vélez Sársfield 2 – 1 Colo Colo (CHI)
This result leaves Vélez top of Group 7 with ten points, and Colo Colo in third on four. Brazil’s Cruzeiro are between the two on seven, and Deportivo Italia of Venezuela bring up the rear with just one point. All teams have two matches left to play, which means barring an almighty swing in goal difference (Vélez have +4, Colo Colo -3), the Argentine side are in the next round already. A draw in either of their remaining matches – away to Cruzeiro and at home to Deportivo Italia – will be enough to confirm that.
