Copa Libertadores 2010: Banfield go through

Following Estudiantes’ qualification last night, Banfield on Wednesday confirmed their participation in the knockout rounds of the 2010 Copa Libertadores thanks to a late pair of goals from Walter Erviti and goalkeeper Christian Lucchetti (don’t get excited, it was from the penalty spot) helping them to a 4-1 win over Deportivo Cuenca, the Ecuadorian champions. Rubén Ramírez had earlier scored two before Gabriel Méndez thought he’d given the hosts a jumpy last few minutes. Julio César Falcioni’s charges though weren’t going to spoil their boss’s celebrations the day after he signed a two year contract extension. By the full time whistle though, the Florencio Sola was jumping as the Argentine champions made sure of advancing to the second round as one of the six best group runners up. Watch the goals here.
