The entire country takes a day off on Saturday for May Day, and that includes the footballers, but Friday’s matches saw some key results in the Torneo Clausura. Racing all but assured themselves of safety from even the playoffs with a 2-1 win away to Tigre – had Central not managed a last-minute winner against Godoy Cruz, La Academia would now be safe. As it is, they need one more point from matches against River Plate and Chacarita Juniors to make sure of it on their own. For their own part, River – looking unrecognisable from the ‘team’ Ángel Cappa inherited two short weeks ago – beat Vélez Sarsfield 2-1 in El Monumental with an excellent late winner from returning hero Diego Buonanotte. It all served to help us almost forget that the first game of the day, between Gimnasia and Lanús, was a dull goalless draw. The goals from the matches that had them are right here.
Tigre 1 – 2 Racing Club
Rosario Central 1 – 0 Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba
River Plate 2 – 1 Vélez Sarsfield
You can follow the Clausura and the Argentine sides in the 2010 Copa Libertadores via HEGS on Twitter (including updates during and between matches and similar stories that might not go up on the site until later). I’m slowly gaining followers, but if you’ve not signed up yet you can do so here.
Great goal from Sosa for Argentinos ! Looks like Migliore is about to go ballistic for the second week in a row !
