Torneo Clausura 2010: Round 19 fixtures

After the madness and midweek distraction of the World Cup preliminary squad list, it’s back to business for one last push in the domestic league: the final round of a nailbiting 2010 Torneo Clausura is upon us, and either Estudiantes de La Plata or Argentinos Juniors will be crowned the champions of Argentina’s bicentenary on Sunday afternoon. The only other decision to make is regarding Copa Sudamericana qualification – Vélez Sarsfield and Lanús are deadlocking on 60 points for the season, and only one of them can take the sixth available spot. Plus there’s a farewell to his club from one legend, whilst another won’t have the chance to play one last match…

Juan Román Riquelme won’t play for Boca Juniors – he was operated on in midweek for meniscus damage – and Marcelo Gallardo will be playing his final match for River Plate, having told the press on Thursday he ‘doesn’t want to be a burden on the club,’ but Matías Almeyda is staying on until the end of the year. Mauro Camoranesi, surprise surprise, won’t be joining him, after turning down a million-dollar contract offer. River have got away with that one. David Trezeguet is still a possibility, but River president Daniel Passarella has admitted, ‘it’s complicated.’

  1. A fitting end to Boca’s season. Has a team ever been more in need of a total house cleaning than this team ?! Old, bitter, delusional players coupled with young, undiscplined, entitled jackasses. Get out the broom and the disinfectant.
