Vélez qualified for the Copa Sudamericana on Saturday despite a 0-0 draw with Central, by virtue of Lanús’ 1-0 loss away to Independiente. Gimnasia demonstrated why they’re in relegation trouble by throwing away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with already relegated Atlético Tucumán, whilst Racing beat Chacarita Juniors 2-1 away. River Plate, saying adios to Marcelo Gallardo, put in by far their worst performance of the Ángel Cappa era and were 3-0 down inside 16 minutes on their way to losing 5-1 at home to Tigre (who didn’t even play all that well themselves). Gallardo didn’t get on the pitch but was given a huge ovation by a packed crowd at the Monumental, which included me. You can watch all the goals right here.
Chacarita Juniors 1 – 2 Racing Club
Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata 3 – 3 Atlético Tucumán
River Plate 1 – 5 Tigre
Independiente 1 – 0 Lanús
