Argentina 3 – 1 Mexico: my reaction

Argentina’s win against Mexico on Sunday was their first in 90 minutes in the knockout rounds of a World Cup for twenty years, believe it or not. To read what I thought of a generally impressive performance, especially from Carlos Tevez, click here to be taken to ESPN Soccernet.

  1. Regarding your great article on ESPN, I agree that Otamendi has outperformed Jonas and am encouraged by the fact that Maradona had the wisdom and pelotas to see that in the game against Greece and start him against Mexico. His substitions have also been surprisingly enlightened (my favourite stat: the 36-yr-old Palermo, who plays domestically, plays only 18 minutes of the world cup — and scores.)

Hopefully Samuel will be well enough to replace Demichelis, and I keep wondering if there is a place for Milito. Such a talent; perhaps replacing Maxi?

    1. Glad you like it, Josefina. I still fear Samuel is more likely to slot back in for Burdisso should he come back, which would be a bit of a worry.

And I’m a little confused – are you suggesting Milito could play in Maxi Rodríguez’s position?
