Quilmes make their point, but All Boys aren’t so lucky

Lucas Aveldaño, Racing's goalscorer, challenges an All Boys player who, to guard his privacy, asked for this photo to be subtly altered so he couldn't be identified...

Two of the newly-promoted sides made their Torneo Apertura debuts on Saturday. Quilmes, who finished second in last season’s Nacional B, did well; a last minute goal from J.J. Morales meant they claimed a draw at home to Colón, never easy opponents to start against. All Boys played really well, and had the better of their match away to Racing for stretches, but a lack of decisiveness in front of goal told and, even though Claudio Yacob was red-carded for the hosts, Racing ended up winning 1-0. A Seba Verón penalty gave Estudiantes a winning start away to Newell’s, and champions Argentinos conceded two second half goals in quick succession to lose 2-1 at home to Huracán; a win by the same scoreline a few months ago handed them the championship in Huracán’s stadium. All the goals are right here.
