Colón 0 – 1 Banfield – El Taladro march on

García celebrates another winner

Banfield recorded their second win of the campaign on Friday night in the evening’s only Primera División match. Substitute Cristian García got the only goal of the game with twelve minutes to play to hand El Taladro a victory away to Colón, who though normally difficult opponents now have just one point from their opening two matches. Federico Higuaín had a disappointing evening on his Colón debut, and home manager Antonio Mohamed looked shorn of ideas, even though his team had far more of an attacking intent. The goal, of course, can be watched right here.

Banfield youngster García once again got the crucial goal, after scoring the winner in the season opener against Olimpo last weekend. When Víctor López flicked on a corner taken by Walter Erviti, García got there ahead of anyone else to force the ball into the net and hand Banfield a perfect start after their first two matches. It wasn’t the best match, but it’s served to underline the fact that Banfield will be aiming to be right up there in the reckoning having won last year’s Apertura and finished fifth in the Clausura. Next week comes a stern test against Estudiantes, but for now it’s job done for Julio César Falcioni & co.
