Torneo Apertura 2010: round 7 scores and scorers

All Boys 2 - 1 Estudiantes de La Plata
All Boys celebrate Eduardo Domínguez's opener

Sunday’s matches began with another brilliant win for All Boys, who deservedly beat pre-weekend league leaders Estudiantes 2-1 in Floresta in a thoroughly absorbing game – I was there and that match will be the subject of this week’s Thoughts from the weekend. After that, River Plate were unable to take advantage of the leaders’ defeat/get the win they needed thanks to their relegation rivals’ victory, and lost 1-0 away to Newell’s Old Boys. Banfield thrashed Independiente 4-0 and Martín Palermo rounded the weekend off with his full repertoire; a hat-trick and a skied penalty as Boca came from behind to win 3-1 for the second time in as many matches, this time against Colón. See all those goals, as well as the scores and scorers from the whole weekend, right here.

  1. Well, here goes with my weekly Boca progress report. Continued glimmers of hope. While it might not be prudent to get overly excited with back to back 3-1 wins over non contenders Olimpo and Colon, I am bordering on excited. Clearly Boca is playing much better now. The attack is more fluid, organized and the players have a better understanding of their roles. Motivation and confidence are better as well. Outstanding performances lately from Battaglia and Escudero. Viatri and Palermo are working very well together and gun toting Viatri unselfishly looking for The Titan. The defense also looks more settled. If Boca can keep Medel and Battaglia on the field without one getting sent off and the other injured that will be immense.

I do wish Boca could get some goals from someone other than Viatri and Palermo. The attack needs an outside threat. Calling Riquelme !!

Next week Estudiantes will provide more of a test. Looking forward to a throwdown between Medel and Desabato !
