Independiente vs Racing: starting lineups

Sunday afternoon sees one of the biggest fixtures in Argentine football, the clásico de Avellaneda, which kicks off at 2:10pm local time (i.e. in just under an hour after this article goes online). Right here you can see the formations both sides are using for a game that both teams will be treating as crucial for very different reasons. Independiente, in manager Antonio Mohamed’s first game in charge, are making five changes from the side that was last week eviscerated by Godoy Cruz away in Mendoza, whilst Racing make only one from the side that won 3-0 against Huracán last weekend, but it’s a big one: Giovanni Moreno, the Colombian playmaker who’s on fire at present, is away with his national side to play a couple of friendlies, so for the biggest competitive match of his time so far at his new club, he’ll be replaced by Braian Lluy. Ridiculous.

Independiente vs Racing, Sunday 10th October 2010

Independiente (manager: Antonio Mohamed)

H. Navarro

C. Baez —- J. Velázquez —- E. Tuzzio —- L. Mareque

F. Mancuello —- H. Fredes —- E. Tuzzio

L. Gracián

F. Parra —- N. Silvera

With so many changes being made, the TyC Sports website is very confusing on who will be playing in which positions (they claim for instance that Leandro Gracián, a playmaker, is ‘replacing’ the suspended Leonel Galeano… who’s a centre back), but given that they are clear that the formation will be a 4-3-1-2, this is my best guess at who’ll play where.

Racing (manager: Miguel Angel Russo)

J. Olivera

M. Cáceres —- M. Martínez —- L. Aveldaño —- M. Cahais

C. Yacob —- J. Fernández —- B. Lluy

P. Toranzo

G. Hauche —- P. Lugüercio
