River fail to win again, and Banfield are the day’s big winners

Erik Lamela (left) congratulates Diego Buonanotte on his goal

River Plate and Racing made it a second damp squib of the weekend in terms of matches I’ve attended, with a 1-1 draw in which the hosts were comfortably outplayed for the first half, and perhaps just slightly the better team in the second. Colombian genius Giovanni Moreno got Racing’s goal, and Diego Buonanotte came off the bench at half time and scored River’s equaliser within a minute. Elsewhere Argentinos Juniors beat All Boys 1-0 in the day’s other clásico, Colón got a 2-1 away win over Lanús, and Banfield climbed up to fifth courtesy of a 2-0 win away to Quilmes. You can watch all the goals right here.

Argentinos Juniors 1 – 0 All Boys

River Plate 1 – 1 Racing Club

Quilmes 0 – 2 Banfield

Lanús 1 – 2 Colón

  1. I’m sure Ortegita’s epitaph has been written many times before, but he seems much closer to the end now. River improved noticeably when Diego B came on for El Burrito, and that has been the case alot of late. It also looks like Ortega sees the end coming if one can judge from his increasing tendency to launch cheap shots. If he had not been replaced by Buonanotte at the break yesterday, I’m convinced he would have eventually been rung up with a straight red.

And Moreno ! First match of Racing I’ve watched in it’s entirety this season. What an impressive kid. All the tools and great vision. He’s a giant to be an enganche, no ?! Reminds me of when Magic Johnson came along as a point guard. :)
