That’s ‘After Diego’. We’re entering that year today, because Saturday, 30th October 2010 sees Diego Armando Maradona celebrate his 50th birthday. It’s been a fittingly eventful year for him, during which he’s become a grandfather, had numerous arguments with Pelé (okay, so there’s nothing new there), irritated his own country’s president, strengthened his friendship with Venezuelan premier Hugo Chávez, allegedly been bitten by his pet dog, who was put down months later for unrelated reasons, grown a beard on doctor’s orders after the surgery to rescue his good looks following that bite… and there was the small matter of ‘managing’ Argentina to World Cup… um… ignominy in there as well. Still, one thing that remained true throughout was that he just kept being Diego Maradona. So feliz cumple to El Pibe De Oro, the boy who never grew up. You’ve seen everything on this video a million times already, but what the hell – it never hurts to enjoy watching genius at work.
