Vélez win to keep the heat on, and Torneo Apertura round 16 scores and scorers

Santiago Silva (far right) celebrates his opener for Vélez with Juan Manuel Martínez (7) and Víctor Zapata (16)

Vélez Sarsfield claimed a 2-1 victory at home to Tigre on Tuesday evening in the final match of the 16th round of the 2010 Torneo Apertura, to remain only two points behind Estudiantes de La Plata as the championship edges closer to its conclusion. Santiago Silva claimed a great finish (my reaction to which you’ll be able to hear in tomorrow’s Hand Of Pod podcast) and Juan Manuel Martínez got a goal from the penalty spot in the second half. Both are tied on nine at the top of the Apertura top scorers table. You can see the goals from that match, plus all the scores and scorers from the weekend, right here.
