I would not normally post an update on two competitions in the same post, but I don’t normally have the bad fortune to be on an aeroplane when potentially decisive matches are played in both of those competitions. So excuse a rambling goal video post. On Wednesday night, Independiente beat Goiás 3-1 before winning the Copa Sudamericana on penalties. It’s a result, of course, which leaves Racing out of next year’s Copa Libertadores to their bitter rivals’ profit. On the same evening Vélez Sarsfield and Estudiantes de La Plata both won, to take the Torneo Apertura title race to the final weekend. Vélez beat Huracán 2-0 at home, whilst Estudiantes thrashed River Plate – for all their travails, previously unbeaten at home this season – 4-0. The goals from all three of those games, plus the others in the midweek round so far, are right here.
