Estudiantes de La Plata have won the 2010 Torneo Apertura after a 2-0 win at ‘home’ in Quilmes over Arsenal de Sarandí. An edgy and at times frustrating match was settled late on by goals from Gastón Fernández and Rodrigo López, to leave Vélez Sarsfield trailing two points behind in spite of their own impressive 2-0 away win over Racing. There’ll be goal videos available later on, after all of Sunday’s matches have been concluded, but for now HEGS offers muchas felicidades to Estudiantes and their fans.

A brief correction to the above with thanks to Dan from Argentina Football World for drawing it to my attention. Rodrigo López in fact got both goals. Fernández wheeled away from the first yelling like he’d scored it, but replays after the match confirmed he hadn’t actually touched the ball.
