Clausura: Boca see off River, & Lanús peg back Vélez (video)

Martín Palermo (screaming) celebrates Boca's second against their most bitter rivals

Sunday’s biggest match in Argentina saw Martín Palermo a goal from a brilliant header in his final superclásico, and Boca Juniors win 2-0 aided by an uncharacteristic error from River Plate goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo in La Bombonera. Sunday’s most important match for the title race saw Lanús come out on top of a five-goal thriller, beating Vélez Sarsfield 3-2 to prevent the Liniers side going four points clear at the top. Estudiantes and Tigre drew 2-2, and Independiente won 2-1 away to Olimpo. All the goals are right here, as well as the scores and scorers from the weekend.

  1. River surely had the best of midfield play, but Lucchetti was sure handed where Carrizo was not. That in a nutshell was the match.

This was another flimsy effort by Carrizo in a big match. I know the River faithful are often gaga about him, but he often doesn’t show up for the big events. A little too much wasted space between them ears.
