Apertura 2011: Boca on the brink, Banfield & Argentinos draw & Sunday’s other goals (video)

Boca Juniors moved nine points clear with just nine to play for in the 2011 Torneo Apertura table on Sunday, meaning they need just one more point from their remaining three matches to claim their first league title in three years. They got an impressive 2-1 win away to Godoy Cruz, with Darío Cvitanich and Rolando Schiavi (from the penalty spot) scoring before Ariel Rojas pulled one back for the hosts late on with a spectacular long-ranger. Boca’s opponents next weekend will be Banfield, now bottom of the table but who won the 2009 Apertura in Boca’s stadium despite a 2-0 loss (their manager that day was Julio César Falcioni, who’s now Boca’s boss). Banfield drew 2-2 with Argentinos Juniors. Elsewhere, Seba Verón got the winner as Estudiantes came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 in Sarandí, and Vélez Sarsfield’s reserves got a 1-1 draw at home to Colón; their first team were rested for the Copa Sudamericana semi-final second leg on Tuesday night. All Sunday’s goals are right here (with Godoy Cruz v Boca in HD).

Arsenal 1 – 2 Estudiantes

Vélez 1 – 1 Colón

Godoy Cruz 1 – 2 Boca

Banfield 2 – 2 Argentinos Juniors
