Clausura 2012: Tigre down Boca to rejoin the title race, Newell’s go joint top & more (video)

Sunday’s matches in the 2012 Torneo Clausura saw a few very interesting results which leave the Clausura table looking rather different to before the weekend. Most notably, Boca Juniors have been joined at the top on 20 points by Newell’s Old Boys, who swept Banfield aside 3-0 in Rosario. Arsenal de Sarandí, knocked out of the Copa Libertadores in midweek, lost 1-0 away to Unión de Santa Fe, and Belgrano got a point closer to the pre-season target of 50 with a 0-0 draw away to Argentinos Juniors. The most surprising result of the day came in Victoria, where Tigre beat Boca Juniors 2-1 thanks to a late own goal from Boca defender Rolando Schiavi. Saturday’s results have seen two managerial casualties; Alfio Basile resigned as Racing manager and has already been replaced by former Lanús and Barcelona de Guayaquil boss Luis Zubeldía, whilst Nery Pumpido resigned as Godoy Cruz manager on Sunday. All Sunday’s goals can be seen right here, including Instituto’s 1-0 win over Atlanta to stay top of Nacional B ahead of their clash with River Plate next weekend.

Newell’s 3 – 0 Banfield

Unión 1 – 0 Arsenal

Tigre 2 – 1 Boca

Nacional B: Instituto 1 – 0 Atlanta
