Friday saw the beginning of the twelfth round of 2012 Torneo Clausura matches with two clashes. One was in La Plata, where Vélez Sarsfield won 2-0 away in the Estadio Único against Estudiantes, with goals from Federico Insúa and Juan Manuel Martínez, and the other was in Lanús, where the hosts beat Racing 3-1 after a calamitous first half in defence from Racing, managed for only the third match by former Lanús manager Luis Zubeldía. All six of the goals are right here.
Estudiantes 0 – 2 Vélez
Lanús 3 – 1 Racing
These results leave Vélez top for the moment, two points ahead of Boca and Newell’s Old Boys, both of whom play on Saturday afternoon. Estudiantes’ loss also spelled the end for Juan Manuel Azconzábal, the manager of Estudiantes, who left his post after the match following a run of four defeats in the last five games.
