Saturday’s and Sunday’s matches in the Torneo Inicial have seen an average of two goals each, and most importantly, on Sunday afternoon, Vélez Sarsfield won their ninth league title – and fifth in seven years – with a match still to play, courtesy of a 2-0 home win over Unión de Santa Fe. The fact that River Plate simultaneously beat Lanús 1-0 in what will be Gustavo Zapata’s sole match as interim coach (Ramón Díaz takes over as boss on Tuesday – you can read more about that in this article by me for ESPNFC) had two effects; it handed Vélez the title, and it meant River’s great rivals Boca Juniors qualified for the 2013 Copa Libertadores. Boca later lost 1-0 to Arsenal de Sarandí. On Saturday, Racing thrashed All Boys and Colón easily saw off Argentinos Juniors. All the goals from the round so far are right here.

Godoy Cruz 0 – 0 Quilmes

Colón 3 – 1 Argentinos Juniors

Racing 3 – 1 All Boys

Vélez Sarsfield 2 – 0 Unión

Belgrano 1 – 0 Tigre

River Plate 1 – 0 Lanús

San Lorenzo 2 – 1 Independiente

Arsenal 1 – 0 Boca Juniors

      1. Hi Sam-as it turned out I was responding to an advertisement, not your post ! Oops.

The Orient is fascinating. BKK for now, and I’ll see what tomorrow brings.

I did run into a fellow doing some welding on a side street who was wearing a Boca shirt. My first “Boca sighting” in Bangkok. No River sightings as of yet.

Thailand looks like the odds on favorite for the Suzuki Cup.

Cheers, and enjoy your holiday trip !!

        1. Ah, haha. I thought you meant the picture of Chucky up top! I don’t see the ads myself, being logged in.

All sounds good, best of luck with it. I set sail for Paris tomorrow*, will email you a link to some photos when they’re online!

*By which I of course mean, I set wing.
