Copa Argentina: Colón dumped out by Platense, Estudiantes de Buenos Aires go through to face River (video)

Wednesday evening saw three more matches in the Copa Argentina, including one Primera División side in action in the form of Colón de Santa Fe. They faced Platense in Catamarca, and in the shock of the round so far, El Calamar, currently playing in the B Metropolitano (third tier) but with an historic head-to-head advantage over Colón, dumped the Primera side out with a 2-1 win. Sebastián Matos and Juan Olivares scored the goals for Platense, with Rubén Ramírez equalising for Colón at the start of the second half. Elsewhere, Estudiantes de Buenos Aires (Primera B) beat Defensa y Justicia (B Nacional) in Banfield’s ground, and in Chaco there was a Rosario derby; Central Córdoba (Primera B) put out B Nacional leaders Rosario Central, 2-1. All the goals are right here.

Colón 1 – 2 Platense

Platense will play the winners between Santamarina and Arsenal de Sarandí in the next round.

Defensa y Justicia 0 – 3 Estudiantes de Buenos Aires

Defensa y Justicia were already down to ten men by half time, with the sending off of Emanuel Aguilera, and Cristian Milla had also been red carded for them before Estudiantes took the lead through Pablo Ruiz in the 75th minute. Diego Figueroa doubled their lead in the 90th minute, and Ruiz got a second for himself in stoppage time to complete the rout. Estudiantes’ reward is a tie against 2012 Copa Argentina semi-finalists River Plate in the next round.

Rosario Central 1 – 2 Central Córdoba (Rosario)

This tie between two sides from the same city whose names are in no way easy to confuse was another which saw the lower division side take the lead before being pegged back; Juan Carlos Lescano, on loan from River Plate back to the club where he made his professional debut, and who came through Rosario Central’s youth academy, gave Central Córdoba the lead right on the stroke of half time. Fernando Coniglio equalised an hour in, but with five minutes to go Martín Salinas gave Central Córdoba the win. They’ll face All Boys – who beat Brown de Adrogué last week – in the next stage.
