Schurrer leaves Argentinos after defeat to Arsenal; Estudiantes & San Lorenzo draw (video)

Friday night brought the beginning of the third round of Torneo Final 2013 action, and the end of Gabriel Schurrer’s very brief spell in charge of Argentinos Juniors. After one draw and six defeats, the manager stepped down/was pushed [delete as applicable] following a 2-1 loss at home to Arsenal de Sarandí. Later on, San Lorenzo fell behind away to Estudiantes de La Plata, but pegged them back to claim a 1-1 draw. All the goals are here.

Argentinos 1 – 2 Arsenal

Argentinos dominated the first fifty-five minutes, hitting the woodwork twice, and it became almost inevitable that with their wasted chances, Arsenal would score first. And so it came to pass; Julio Furch gave them the lead after 65 minutes, and Carlos Carbonero hit a stunning long ranger just four minutes later to make it 2-0. Argentinos rallied, and Leandro Barrera gave them some hope – but it was too little, too late.

Estudiantes 1 – 1 San Lorenzo

Estudiantes took an early lead through Duvan Zapata, through the help of a wild deflection, and held onto it for most of the game, but with twelve minutes to play San Lorenzo equalised with a goal from Santiago Gentiletti, to claim a point.
