Two matches in the Copa Libertadores on Tuesday night involved Argentine clubs. Vélez Sarsfield visited Iquique in Chile, where they easily dispatched the hosts 3-1 with goals from Sebastián Domínguez, Lucas Romero and Jonathan Copete. Manuel Villalobos scored Iquique’s goal. A little later, Tigre visited São Paulo to take on Palmeiras and lost 2-0, the Brazilian goals coming from Caio and Charles. All six goals are right here for your viewing pleasure.
Iquique 1 – 3 Vélez Sarsfield
Vélez’s win means they’re through to the knockout stage with a game still to play in Group 4, and will win the group unless second-placed Emelec can beat them by four goals in Liniers next Tuesday.
Palmeiras 0 – 2 Tigre
Palmeiras got revenge on Tigre in Pacaembu, after Tigre had beaten them 1-0 with the last kick of the game when the sides met in Victoria last month. The win leaves Palmeiras second in the group and Tigre bottom, but there are still two matches to go in Group 2, so Tigre aren’t out of it yet – in fact mathematically it’s still possible for them to win the group. They have to host Sporting Cristal and visit Libertad, though – both sides have already beaten them 2-0 earlier in the group.
