Superclásico weekend is upon us in Argentina, but before River Plate’s visit to Boca Juniors’ Bombonera on Sunday, there are other games to take care of, and Godoy Cruz and San Lorenzo got the weekend started with a win apiece on Friday night, as we saw six goals in two matches. Godoy Cruz’s win came at home to Colón de Santa Fe, whose recent improvement was abruptly halted by a 3-0 defeat, whilst San Lorenzo rallied to come from a 1-0 half time deficit and win 2-1 away to Quilmes. All six of those goals are right here.
Godoy Cruz 3 – 0 Colón
Mauro Óbolo got things started about ten minutes before the break, opening the scoring to give his side a deserved lead, and Gonzalo Castellani doubled the hosts’ advantage just minutes later, allowing Martín Palermo’s side to go in 2-0 up at the break. In the 81st minute, Nicolás Sánchez put the icing on the cake.
Quilmes 1 – 2 San Lorenzo
Young starlet Fernando Elizari gave Quilmes the lead just 16 minutes into this relegation dogfight, but San Lorenzo fought back after a disappointing first half. With Independiente fans all of course hoping the visitors could turn it around (both these sides are down there in the relegation table, but Quilmes are looking like the side more easily catchable for El Rojo), that’s exactly what they managed thanks to a quick equaliser just three minutes into the second half from Julio Buffarini, and a winner from Gonzalo Verón just after the hour mark.
