Copa Argentina 2013: Duván Zapata double sends Estudiantes through & Quilmes out (video)

Tuesday evening brought either the first competitive action of the 2013-14 season, or the last of the 2012-13 season. Or the midpoint of the 2013 sea- look, I don’t know? Okay? The final round of 16 match in the 2013 Copa Argentina took place, and Duván Zapata scored twice for Estudiantes de La Plata to knock Quilmes out, 2-1. Estudiantes join their less well-known namesakes from Buenos Aires in the quarter-finals, though the two can’t meet until the final. Tuesday’s goals, as well as all the quarter-final fixtures, are right here.

Estudiantes 2-1 Quilmes

Estudiantes will meet All Boys in the quarter-finals, and the winners of that tie will play the winners of Gimnasia y Esgrima de Entre Ríos v San Lorenzo. On the other half of the draw, there’s one all-lower division clash, as Estudiantes de Buenos Aires (Primera B; the third tier) take on Talleres de Córdoba (who’ll play the coming season in the second tier B Nacional, having won promotion at the end of  2012-13), and an all-Primera tie between Arsenal de Sarandí and Godoy Cruz.

This is the Copa Argentina, so please don’t ask me when these matches will be played. The final is some time in November – that’s all I can give you at present.
