Inicial 2013: Newell’s come from behind to beat Olimpo & All Boys thrash Quilmes (video)

A home win-heavy weekend of Torneo Inicial action continued on Saturday with three more matches, two of which ended in victories for the hosts after Friday evenings two home tonkings. First up, Newell’s Old Boys surprisingly went in 1-0 down at the break against Olimpo de Bahía Blanca, but rallied in the second half to win 2-1 thanks to an equaliser from David Trezeguet and a penalty from Maxi Rodríguez. After that, All Boys – who hadn’t scored more than once in any given match previously this season – tonked Quilmes 4-0, with Mauro Matos getting a hat trick. The day’s other game saw San Lorenzo huff and puff but fail to blow Godoy Cruz’s house down; they had to settle for a 0-0 draw. All the goals are here.

Newell’s 2-1 Olimpo

Damián Musto opened the scoring for Olimpo ten minutes before the break, but in the second half Trezeguet’s strike added to Maxi’s late penalty turned things round for the visitors.

All Boys 4-0 Quilmes

All Boys have made a habit of taking the lead before half time and throwing it away in the second half this season, but there were no such mistakes this time. True to form, Mauro Matos gave them a 1-0 half time lead, but he added another early in the second half and completed his hat trick with just under 25 minutes remaining before Gonzalo Espinoza scored a fine goal to put the cherry on top of a fine win.

In the B Nacional, Independiente hosted Banfield. The home side were looking to build on  Monday night’s success, when they’d finally managed their first win of the season, but in spite of having the better of the first half, they were frustrated by Matías Almeyda’s charges, and could only scramble a 1-1 draw.
