Saturday’s football in Argentina saw two Primera matches and two home wins, with no goals for the away side. San Lorenzo were worthy winners over Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, 3-0, scoring two absolutely magnificent goals in the process, and shortly after (the games kicked off just an hour and a quarter apart, for some reason), Atlético de Rafaela beat Olimpo de Bahía Blanca 2-0. A little later, Independiente conceded early, rallied to take a second half lead, but eventually ended up having to settle for a 2-2 draw away to Talleres de Córdoba. All nine goals are here.
San Lorenzo 3-0 Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata
This match was only 12 minutes old when Ignacio Piatti gave the hosts the lead. It took them rather longer to double their advantage, but when it arrived in the 51st minute, Pablo Alvarado’s goal was worth the wait. Piatti got his second and San Lorenzo’s third just seven minutes later. This result takes San Lorenzo temporarily top of the league – Newell’s Old Boys can overtake them if they beat Argentinos Juniors on Sunday.
Rafaela 2-0 Olimpo
Diego Vera gave Rafaela the lead just seven minutes in from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t all plain sailing; Olimpo applied plenty of pressure and it wasn’t until the 83rd minute that Federico González wrapped up the win for the hosts.
Talleres de Córdoba 2-2 Independiente
Elvio Fredrich gave the cordobeses the lead just four minutes into this one, and it was all uphill for Independiente. On the stroke of half time, though, Daniel Montenegro scored a cracker to equaliser, and shortly after the break he added to his account with another fine finish to put El Rojo into the lead. With quarter-of-an-hour to go, though, Juan Sánchez Sótolo made it 2-2, and that was how it stayed.
