Tuesday evening finally brought an end to the ‘weekend’ of Primera action in Argentina, with Newell’s Old Boys’ 2-0 win over Godoy Cruz closing a round which had seen River Plate and Boca Juniors go clear as joint-leaders of the table ahead of the superclásico at La Bombonera in just under two weeks. All the goals are in this video.
Following a 1-0 win over Crucero del Norte, Belgrano join previous leaders Rosario Central on 22 points, and both sides are two behind River and Boca. San Lorenzo complete the top five with 21 points. At the bottom, Olimpo, Atlético de Rafaela and Nueva Chicago are all still without a win (Chicago aren’t in the above video as their match at home to Racing ended goalless; so did Independiente v Argentinos Juniors).
Two managers are out of a job after this round of matches. Martín Palermo was sacked by Arsenal de Sarandí, and Darío Franco stood down at Defensa y Justicia. The sides currently propping up the relegation table are Chicago and Crucero del Norte, with Huracán hovering just above them.
