Sunday Superliga highlights: Lanús’ winless run ends with a win over River; Boca win to extend their lead

Sunday’s Superliga matches saw Argentina’s two giants both in action. Boca Juniors extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points with a nervy 1-0 win over relegation strugglers Temperley, thanks to a Frank Fabra mis-hit cross which sailed in at the far post; River Plate, meanwhile, lost for the sixth time in nine league games, this time 1-0 to Lanús, after making the same mistakes they have been doing all season. Earlier on, Talleres had grabbed a 1-0 win over Banfield in Córdoba to go second – though San Lorenzo have a game in hand since their game with Independiente has been postponed – and Godoy Cruz got their seventh home win in seven home matches this season by beating Belgrano 2-1. Next week, the Mendoza side are away, where they’ve won just once this term … but they’re facing River. One way or another, someone’s form has to change (or they could both draw, I suppose).

Talleres 1-0 Banfield

Godoy Cruz 2-1 Belgrano

Boca Juniors 1-0 Temperley

Lanús 1-0 River Plate
