Friday and Saturday Superliga highlights: Racing hold off Lanús, and Central tonk Olimpo

Friday and Saturday brought seven matches and twenty goals in the sixteenth round of Superliga action. On Friday evening, Estudiantes beat Unión 2-0 in La Plata, before one of the most attractive fixtures of the weekend saw Racing beat Lanús 3-1 in Avellaneda, with Ricardo Centurión again among the scorers. Gabriel Heinze pronounced himself pleased with his Vélez Sarsfield side’s character after they twice came from behind, including a stoppage time strike from Agustín Bouzat, to claim a 2-2 draw away to Belgrano. On Saturday San Lorenzo got a 1-0 win over Newell’s Old Boys and Argentinos Juniors drew 2-2 at home to Atlético Tucumán. Temperley’s 0-0 draw with a second string Independiente team followed, before Rosario Central turned in the performance of the weekend so far in a 5-0 thrashing of Olimpo, in which 20-year-old midfielder Andrés Lioi hitting a hat trick, including a couple of golazos for his first and second.
