Copa Libertadores highlights: Estudiantes and River both start with away draws

Wednesday night brought two more matches for Argentine clubs in South America’s premier club competition, and neither one will go down as a classic for the ages. First, Estudiantes de La Plata visited Gran Parque Central in Montevideo, to take on Uruguayan giants Nacional. They headed back across the estuary with a 0-0 draw under their belts. Later, River Plate took on Flamengo in an empty Engenhão stadium (Flamengo have two games behind closed doors after trouble during their home leg of last year’s Copa Sudamericana final). That game ended 2-2, but in truth it wasn’t much better; River were as bad as they’ve been all year in the league, and Flamengo were no better. River fell behind twice in the second half, and equalised through a Uruguayan on each occasion; first the resurgent Rodrigo Mora, and then a player who’s also coming back from a long spell out, Camilo Mayada, returning from a doping ban Mayada’s goal, it’s true, was worth checking out the video for. You can see the highlights, such as they are, right here.

Nacional 0-0 Estudiantes

Flamengo 2-2 River Plate
