Sunday Superliga highlights: Racing thrash Patronato, Boca rescue a draw and River win again

Sunday brought five matches in the Superliga, starting rather ridiculously at 11 in the morning, because for some reason the AFA and the Superliga think Racing v Patronato will compete in the European television market if they schedule it at that time (I’d have thought they’d want to avoid competing with Europe’s own leagues for that market, rather than deliberately scheduling games at a really inconvenient time in order to go into competition with them, but here we are). In that match, it was Racing who’d got out of bed earlier, tonking the visitors 5-0 with defender Alejandro Donatti scoring two. Vélez Sarsfield had to settle for only a draw away to Arsenal de Sarandí, before Godoy Cruz got a third win in a row, and a second away from home, beating Estudiantes 1-0. In the evening, Boca Juniors got another late goal to rescue a 1-1 draw away to Atlético Tucumán – their lead has thus been cut to six points, with second-placed Talleres their next opponents. And at night, River Plate made it two league wins in a row, and began to suggest that Wednesday’s Supercopa win might prove a turning point, with a 3-1 win over Belgrano in which Ignacio Scocco came off the bench to score twice.

Racing 5-0 Patronato

Arsenal de Sarandí 1-1 Vélez Sarsfield

Estudiantes 0-1 Godoy Cruz

Atlético Tucumán 1-1 Boca Juniors

River Plate 3-1 Belgrano
