Saturday brought some interesting Superliga results, none more eye-catching than Vélez Sarsfield’s improvement in one of the very first matches of the afternoon to tonk relegated Temperley 4-2 away from home, thanks to two second half goals from Lucas Robertone. Meanwhile, San Martín and Lanús were drawing 1-1 in San Juan. Talleres got their Copa Libertadores hopes back on track with a 2-0 dismissal of Gimnasia La Plata, before what could be the final death knell for the title race was sounded when Godoy Cruz, after a very poor first half, could only draw 1-1 away to Banfield. That means Boca Juniors, who play on Sunday evening at home to Newell’s Old Boys, could go six points clear with just three games left. In the evening, San Lorenzo kept their own faint hopes of glory alive with a 1-0 win over Chacarita Juniors, thanks to another goal from Nicolás Reniero.
