Superliga Friday highlights: Bauza’s Central get a second win, Newell’s and Independiente serve up a thriller

The second round of Superliga action began on Friday evening with Talleres hosting Rosario Central. The hosts suffered a narrow defeat for the second week running, while Central – the team now managed by former Argentina boss Edgardo Bauza – got their second 1-0 win thanks to a headed goal of the season, with Fernando Zampedri the scorer. Later the same evening, Independiente took an early lead away to Newell’s Old Boys through Emanuel Gigliotti but couldn’t maintain their level during much of the first half, conceding an equaliser before Gigliotti’s second goal restored the lead shortly before half time. In the second half, Newell’s equalised again through Fabricio Fontanini early on, but had Joel Amoroso sent off midway through the half. It was the fourth 2-2 draw of the season so far, in just the fifteenth match.

Talleres 0-1 Rosario Central
